miscellaneous badassery

Brandi Carlile

Brandi Carlile has one of the more beautiful voices I’ve heard in a while. In 2004 she was signed by Columbia Records based on recordings she had been making off and on from home. The following year she was featured in Rolling Stone’s 10 Artists to Watch in 2005.

The track included below was recorded during a 11-day marathon session, and Brandi’s voice cracks near the end due to the intensity of the process. She describes the vocals in the recording as “technically wrong but emotionally right”.

P.S. New readers: all music posted on this site is available in the podcast.
