This movie looks sick. Using motion capture the actors’ movements are recorded, including eye-lid flutters via electrooculography, enabling the entire movie to be live acted yet completely computer animated. It will be simultaneously released in traditional theaters and IMAX 3D.
IMAX lends itself to the incredible image detail in Beowulf and in 3D, it will transport the audience directly into the story.
Robert Zemeckis, director
Starring Angelina Jolie, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Crispin Glover and John Malkovich. Be sure to check out the HD trailer. Opens November 16.

Stunning isn’t it? I haven’t seen any major studio pushing this level of realism in cgi - not since Final Fantasy Spirits Within. Lets hope Beowulf does better.
I’m usually against seeing traditional movies in IMAX but for this one I think I will make an exception.
I think it’s interesting what they’re doing, I guess. All in all, I’m not at all excited about this film. The CG looks pretty lousy, the movements are kinda fake-feeling, and I don’t see the artistry in just copying people’s movement and faces and using motion capture to mimic their movements.
Give me real animation over this stuff any day.
