Magic Sand

Whoa, sand coated with a hydrophobic substance stays dry when submersed in water. Originally developed to contain ocean oil spills near the shore.

Oh what my 10 year old self wouldn’t give for a packet of that sand. Not that I could have every convinced my mom to let me bring it into the house. It was marketed by Nickelodeon as Sqand.

They say that but I never saw it, and I wasn’t exactly lax in my efforts keeping up w/ Nickelodeon’s gooey/partcicle-based products.

I had my hands on some Squand when I was younger, and I actually remember playing with it a bit. Very entertaining and not too messy.
