Xia Xiaowan: 3D Glass Paintings

Really beautiful idea — I’d love to see Xiaowan’s work in person.

If you think that is intriguing you should look at the works of William Blake. He was a true artist. Xia in my opinion is changing the visual precedent for drawing. In fact I would call him inspirational.

Anyone know of other artist creating 3d images by stacking panes of glass?

I saw his work (including some of the pieces above) at the Beijing Art Fair last year. It is indescribably amazing. The 2D images don’t give you a real understanding of the visual impact of these masterpieces. The multiple layers of painting allows the image to shift in 3D as you walk around from the front to the back of the piece.
