Millenium Simulation

Someone indirectly asked about an image of the universe posted here recently so I looked a little further. Turns out it was the product of the Millenium Simulation: the largest n-body simulation to date, containing more than 10 billion particles and using a computer cluster of 512 processors over a period of 28 days. The simulation was run by the Virgo Consortium, an international collective of scientists dedicated to pushing the boundries of cosmological simulation.

Aphex Twin comes to mind when I watch that. Something ambient…

It’s odd that only secondary colours of orange, purple and green are present. The primaries are in there of course, however are not as prominent.

I think it’s more a function of the general coarseness of the simulation, no to mention that at scales such as this, human color perception is basically irrelevant.
