Kick Ass Classical lists the 100 most popular classical works based on their prominence in popular culture, with audio samples of each piece’s “hook” for easy recognition. In addition to the website there’s also a podcast and iTunes iMix with the top 20. Be sure to read the website taglines as you scroll down the page:

As a classically trained musician I’m supposed to say something like “I can’t believe they didn’t include ______” or “this is an insult to a rich and diverse facet of human culture” … so there.
