Everything in the universe is the same matter. It makes one realize how big is not so big afterall. This is my second time coming to look at these two photos. I just keep thinking wow.
We all know what galaxies look like, but how the they know what the universe looks like as a whole? and if this is true is it possible that there are other universes like there are other galaxies?
Charles: “They” are the Virgo Consortium and the image above (+ many others) was produced from the “Millenium Simulation”.
But yeah. It’s turtles all the way down. In a turtle-shaped pond …
We think of a brain cell as small because in relation to us it is, the same goes for our perception of the universe. This similarity just makes me wonder if something else out there could be looking at the universe in the same way that we look at the brain cell. Size is relative after all.
nu neeee nu nu
*couldn’t resist after your comment richard about size being relative to that of the beholder. Kind of like the Cat’s galaxy collar in Men in black… :)
“Apophenia is the spontaneous perception of connections and meaningfulness of unrelated phenomena. The term was coined by K. Conrad in 1958 (Brugger).”

Drew: they say apophenia, in advanced stages at least, is a component of psychosis. If that’s psychotic I don’t wanna be sane. :)
To be clear, Justin, you’re saying that you want to see unrelated phenomema as related? You want to see “meaningful messages in such things as a stopped clock, the angle of an open safety pin, and the angle formed by two postcards lying on the floor,” for example? James Pike thought these exact signs were conveying the time his son had shot himself. That sound about right to you?
Drew: there are extremes to any mode of perception that fall outside the range of practicality. I’m only saying there is probably a lot more meaning and symmetry in things than we allow ourself to be aware of. Who’s to say what is related and unrelated in any kind of definite sense?
is the universe a brain?
Yes, kerry, yes it is. Though apparently it’s the brain of a schizophrenic.
like i said before, the universe is expanding, but our mind is not…..
Yeah, the mind is also expanding! We learn new stuff every day!
It makes you wonder doesn’t it?
Is there really some omnipotent being with a plan for us?
Well it makes since to me, if God is the universe than we are just a micro Cell of God’s brain. I don’t know just a weird thought.
Justin: It’s not so weird.
To really think about it makes me cringe. I love it though. To think about how umimportant a brain cell is to a human and then think about the universe being one in itself makes me try to imagine what brain we are a part of. To what being are we inside. Could it be a god, technically it would be a god. We would technically be a part of another being, meaning that being created us, meaning god is true.
That would be a wierd day, the day science proves God is real and we are part of him haha.
It would also prove that we are some type of universal host ourselves and the we truly are all connected together. Could explain most of our reality. “Cell theory” to an extent.
that*
Makes me wonder about the quote from the bible, “We are created in the image and likeness of our creator…”
