One of the most highly anticipated anime series of all time before its May ‘04 release to Japanese television.

This is the story of three characters in feudal Japan, (roughly the end of the Edo period, but the show isnt designed to be historical, it’s mostly just designed to be bad-ass). It is the next major project from Shinichiro Watanabe, who developed niche-level fame and fandom after Cowboy Bebop. (Now when I say fandom, I mean to say he is a demi-god to those who love his work.)
Just as Cowboy Bebop blended smooth jazz and blues with futuristic cities and space travel, Samurai Champloo mixes scratch and hiphop with Samurai and sword fights. The artwork is coarse and at times a bit grainy, but this is all part of the design and it adds to the detail of the world and the overall feel of the characters. To get a feel of the artwork, check out the Visual Archive on the main site. The official trailer is located there, as well as a wide variety of desktops.
Oh, and by the way, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie was on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) last night at midnight. I fell asleep about halfway through. I’ve seen it a few times. It looks like there was only a bit of editing done for language. Next Saturday night at midnight, Adult Swim is showing Escaflowne, the movie. I’ve seen it as well, but that is another post for another time. Catch it if you can, the artwork and music are worth the effort.
Oh, my name is Casey.
